WORKING FIRE IN POMFRET
Tuesday, March 18, 2008
-
On March 18th, 2008 at approximately 1215 hours BRVFD was dispatched to 8320 Warren Drive in Pomfret for the report of a house fire. Engine 112 (Capt. Walko, F/F Meinhart and F/F Thorne) Tanker 11 (Tech. M. Hedges) responded to the incident. While responding Charles County Communications advised they believed we had a working fire. Truck 1 was the first arriving unit and reported a single family split foyer with fire showing from the lower level. Engine 112 arrived on the scene seconds later and deployed their 1 3/4" and 2" attack lines. LaPlata's truck driver and tiller man threw ladders to the house. The crew members entered the structure with the crew from Truck Company 1 and attempted an aggressive interior attack on the lower level. Members from Tenth District Engine 83 arrived on the scene and entered the structure with the 2" attack line to the second floor. As crews were extinguishing the fire and completing a primary search the evacuation tones were sounded due to the extension into the upper level and attic area. One firefighter from Potomac Heights escaped the upper floor on Side C after his exit was blocked by falling debris. Once crews were outside Truck 1 used their ladder pipe to knock down the fire on the upper floor. A few minutes after the ladder pipe operations were completed, several crews were sent back inside to fully extinguish all remaining fire and overhaul the entire structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. One Firefighter from bryans Road was burned. he was treated and released from Civista and the burn Center in Washington D.C.
